Cocktail Hour/Rose Ceremony

I was pleasantly surprised with how Jenn opened up the cocktail hour. She stated precisely what she was looking for with a ferocious, genuine love. Though, I thought it was the next part that stuck out the most. In front of all her potential future fiancees, she mentioned how she does not expect perfection. While it might be simple, I think it’s a huge and very gracious statement. She acknowledges the fact that mistakes will be made along the way. Whether it’s by her or one of the guys. It’s a great mentality for this show, for life, and especially for a spouse. I’ve been a fan of Jenn so far!

The stud himself, Sam M led off the one-on-one conversations in the cocktail hour. His comments were interesting to me. He claimed that he displays a reckless love, but also claimed shortly after that he wants to be intentional with how he loves. I don’t necessarily see how those both can go together. I feel like that would lead to a very confusing and possibly frustrating dynamic for Jenn. Hey, maybe he’s got a much better idea or plan than I do. Something clear is that there’s a definite physical connection between these two.

I didn’t give Spencer much love in the entrances blog but he definitely should get more credit in the cocktail hour conversations. He seemed good at making conversation with Jenn and making her feel very comfortable. Plus he is an animal lover and that will probably never go wrong. He gives golden retriever energy like Jenn said.

Do Finger tattoos hurt to get? I feel like they would. Who knows. Not me. This is coming from someone who has zero experience with getting tattoos and doesn’t like needles. Back to Thomas N who was showing off all his sick tats. Especially his finger tattoos, which had to do something with his Vietnamese/Olympic swimming background. I didn’t mention his entrance in the previous blog, but they’re going to have a nice emotional connection due to sharing very similar family stories. I can see Jenn keeping him around for a good bit with this being a factor.

(Shoutout Bachelor Bob!)

The masked man, Jonathan, also finally revealed himself! I thought it was funny that Dylan claimed that “nobody likes him”, even when it seemed like he was laughing and having a good time with a lot of the guys there. Maybe it was due to him flashing his gluteus maximus to everyone all around the house. But his ploy of hiding his face worked in my opinion! Not only Jenn was curious, but all the guys were too. I think he had a good message about it too. Making sure that the whole relationship wouldn’t be wrapped around looks and that the emotional connection would reign true. We’ll see if it pans out.

Moving on, that truth-or-dare game was not fair. The first dare was so much worse compared to the rest. I believe it was Tomas A who was dared to go streaking around in his very interesting underwear. The other ones were like dancing or something nowhere close to the scale of that first dare.

Next, we have Sam N, who is coming at this relationship full speed ahead. Dropping bars like, “I want our souls to kiss, not our lips.” He said that and I kind of froze and had to think about it a little bit. I don’t know. He reassured again to Jenn that he’s never had a girlfriend before, therefore he takes it all very seriously. I wish I could tell him to not try so hard to prove yourself and instead be himself! What do I know though?!

Moze is such a sick name. His nickname, Moze Dangerous, is also fire. I didn’t see anything noteworthy in his entrance but I am so glad we got to know him more in the cocktail hour. Then he pulled out the algebra/math rizz. I don’t understand how that wouldn’t work. It shows that you’re smoother than butter and you got the brains to go with it. I can’t wait to watch him more this season…. Or not. :/

The moment of the episode came from Brian stealing Jeremy’s car from him. I don’t necessarily know whose side I am on for this yet. I truly could see this being an all-time rivalry between Jeremy and Brian. One for the record books and I am honestly so ready for it. On another note, I want to know how Brian got access to the keys. After doing some investigative research, I concluded that he may have got the keys from Jesse Palmer. Jeremy did toss his keys to Mr. Palmer when he made his entrance. Maybe somehow they were left on a coffee table somewhere? If that’s the case, props to Brian for seizing the opportunity. Did the producer plant the keys for Brian? Props to Jeremy for letting it go and not making it a bigger deal.

Grant definitely seems to be the bad boy of the group and he might rub people the wrong way. Though, I can see him doing well. Guess what word Jenn used to describe Grant? Hot. Not a shocker here.

When Jahann had his conversation, he was clearly nervous. It made me think. Is it worse to be overly nervous or overly confident? My wife, Lauren, said it’s worse to be nervous because then it makes you scared to put yourself even out there. I am still unsure, let me know what you think!

Aaron seems like a good dude who is about to get friend-zoned. The awkward fist bump at the end kind of helped me see that more. Not feeling the sparks on that one.

Finally, we have made it to the first impression rose! Which was given to none other than the hunk, Sam M. She went with her gut and chose the guy I think she’s had the most physical attraction with so far. With the rose, he also got the first kiss. They were kissin' kissin', full-on smooching. I also really dig his maroon suit.

Finally, the iconic rose ceremony. This part of the show is truly brutal and it genuinely cannot be easy to send people home who sacrifice a good bit to be out there. Getting eliminated in the first episode adds even more salt to the wound too. I feel bad for the guys who didn’t get much screen time. Though, for the most part, I think it played out exactly like I thought it would.

I also wanted Hakeem to get a rose. Not necessarily because I think he and Jenn will go the distance. Moreso because he’s a great vibe to have around.

I think the two I was most upset about were Brett and Moze. Moze was an awesome character in the short bit we got to see him. Maybe Bachelor is paradise?! I wish we got to know more of Brett and spent more time with him. Stating the obvious, he is a bigger dude and you don’t get to see that too much on the Bachelorette/Bachelor! Props to getting out there and showing out for the bigger guys. They get as much of a right to be out there finding love too.

Also, this does not make Jenn fat-phobic. I’ve seen her getting a lot of backlash on social media and I think it’s sort of unfair. I don’t think that had much to do with her decision and more about them not having more time to make a connection. Jenn signed up for this role and with it will come some tough decisions. I think she’s done an excellent job so far.

To wrap it all up for the season premiere, I am looking forward to what’s to come this season. I love how the promo video goes from happy-go-lucky to heartbreak and endless tears. Do we also have a possible ex-boyfriend being thrown into the mix? I don’t know if that has happened before, someone will have to let me know. Australia should be fun too, can’t complain about that! Jenn did great in the first episode and the cast is full of amazing characters. I have been pleasantly surprised and I am here for it Bachelor Nation!
